I See Hawks, Haymaker, and David Serby

TwangTime Presents a Night of the Best of L.A. Alt Country with

I See Hawks In L.A., Haymaker and David Serby & the Latest Scam

TwangTime presents a show Friday, March 14 at Schooner At Sunset in Sunset Beach highlighting three of

the best acts in the Southern California alt-country scene featuring highly regarded I See Hawks In L.A., Long

Beach roots rockers Haymaker and critically acclaimed singer/songwriter David Serby (& the Latest Scam).

I See Hawks In LA has just released its 7th album, “Mystery Drug” and are slated to appear at the Stage-

Coach Festival in Indio on April 27. They are said to play, “The finest cosmic cowboy music since the Burrito

Brothers,” by the LA Weekly and have been named Best Country Band at the LA Weekly’s Music Awards. Built

around the songs of singer and guitarist Rob Waller and guitarist and steel player Paul Lacques, I See Hawks

in LA combines the talents of some of the best players in the California country scene. L.A. roots rock patriarch

Dave Alvin says it best: “Southern California is a land of strange, dangerous and beautiful contrasts. A

mountain lion prowls outside the tract home bedroom of a teenage girl while she talks, oblivious to its existence,

on her cell phone. A rattlesnake slithers across an empty shopping mall parking lot on a hot summer

night while the employees count up the days profit and turn out the lights. While paparazzi chase the latest

talent free celebrity, a talented, literate bunch of soulful musicians create honest and wise roots music for the

ages. I See Hawks are indeed one of California’s unique treasures.”

Haymaker is the pride of Long Beach and pumps out a deceptively straightforward brand of roots rock that

mines a traditional country rock framework but does so with a melodic and lyrical heart that makes for a

more satisfying and lasting brand of music. The band has just released it’s third album, “Now Now Now” and

is known for spirited live performances and, with its twin vocalist attack, has been described as the Everly

Brothers meet Neil Young. The L.A. Daily News says it best: “These melodious Long Beach roots rockers

spice their smarter-than-average working guy laments with judicious country flourishes. There’s passion,

sweet roughhouse harmonies, guitar jangling and humor aplenty, with a becoming lack of the pretension that

some music in this subgenre assume. You can dance, drink or think all you want to it – or all three- if you’re

coordinated enough.”

David Serby is riding the wave of his recently released and critically-acclaimed “David Serby and the Latest

Scam” album that has garnered praise in the alt-country press. His music has prompted Robert Kinsler

to rave: “Like Elvis Costello, David Serby is not content to work in and around one genre. On the heels of

his wonderful folk-roots tour de force “Poor Man’s Poem” and several honky tonk collections (notably 2009’s

“Honkytonk and Vine”) the San Gabriel, California-based artist has issued an outstanding 2-disc power-pop

album.
